Walk On Water: Treading Water (Genesis 35 – 50)

Sometimes, life just seems to be too much, but like Joseph, we can survive and thrive even though we feel trapped in a box or we are treading water.

  • Joseph: we may tread water before we can walk on it.
  • The last straw … the straw that broke the camel’s back.
  • That’s the frosting on my stress cake.
  1. How long are you willing to tread water in order to receive the miracle? How long will you wait on Jesus to act?
  2. You may dream of walking on water and others my think you are foolish, arrogant and obnoxious.
    • Mark 6:4 … A prophet has honor everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.
  3. Others may try to sink you before you get started.
    • Gen 37:19 … Here comes that dreamer … let’s kill him and then we’ll see what comes of his dreams (but Reuben).
  4. Others may try to tie an anchor to you, but you will float.
  • Potiphar’s wife – she did not get what she expected
  • Victor Frankel: you’ve power to choose how you respond.
  1. Your abilities will set you in front of kings.
  • Proverbs 18:16 … A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.
  1. When others think you have sunk, they will see you walking.
    • Genesis 50:19-20 … Do not be afraid! I have no right to change what God has decided. You tried to harm me, but God made it turn out for the best, so that he could save all these people, as he is now doing.
  2. When you walk on water, extend a helping hand to those who those who dismissed and disparaged your dream.
    • Joseph went through hell and he extended forgiveness and help to those who put him through hell.
    • A mark of Jesus in us is that we do not put our foot on our enemy’s neck when we have the opportunity to do so.
    • God has seen/is seeing you through at storm because…
      1. He cares for you and the people around you.
